I am hoping that in all the rest of our summers, that we won't have as an eventful one with the medical field as we have had this summer. Yesterday was our round two of surgeries, but this time with our little guy to get his adenoids taken out.
Looking back, this probably needed to be done almost a year ago, but it took awhile to connect all the dots and figure out what was going on with Kallan. So it was actually more of a relief than anything to get this done because he needed them out so bad! As his ENT told us when he got his initial x-ray, he pretty much wasn't getting any air through his nose at all... they were that big. Poor sweet thing!
I think after going through Ainsley's surgery, this one felt like a piece of cake! I loved that the Bible story I read to Kallan the night before was when God was telling Joshua to go over to the promised land and check it out. He encouraged him by saying, Be strong and courageous... I will be with you! Have I not commanded you to not be terrified or discouraged? I will be with you wherever you go! I had to smile as I felt God encouraging my heart through this simple story with a big message...
It isn't easy to hand your child over to be put to sleep and then have some sort of medical procedure done on them... but at the same time, it is totally easy to put them into God's hands and know that He loves them more than I could ever fathom! I hope Kallan's nurses understood that as we were taking pictures of him, clapping for him on his "ride" to the operating room, and smiling with a sense of peace that only God can bring when we trust in Him. All praise to Him who is strong enough... and who walks with us through events like this with our little ones!
Looking bright and chipper while checking in at 5:30 AM!
Recording vitals and getting all checked out.
Kallan seemed totally fine until he had to put the hospital pajamas on. I thought he would be so excited to put "fishy" jammies on, but instead, this created a meltdown. I could tell by his cry that he was getting nervous. I decided that this is a super hard age to have a surgery because they know enough to be nervous, but they are still too little to understand anything.
Thankfully I had brought some of his favorite books from home and he calmed down and had a little snuggle time with daddy.
Because Kallan is prone to having breathing issues, anesthesia can tend to really bring them on. So before surgery, we had a nice little breathing treatment with a fun new fish mask to make sure his airway was as ready as it could be for surgery!
Here's our guy ready to go on his "ride" to surgery! I'm so thankful for the "happy drugs" that calmed his little heart and took his nerves away! He was all smiles and ready to go by the time they came for him!
Here we are all done and on the other side. They said he was perfect back in the recovery room and gave them lots of snuggles, but he got really sad when he finally saw us. It was as if he was trying to be brave, but when he saw mama, it was time to let it all go and let us know how he was really feeling. Thankfully we turned on the Disney channel and he was able to calm down, relax, and snuggle some more.
We were at the hospital for a couple of hours and then headed home. We tried to relax and watch some "Choo-Choo Shows", but after awhile he was ready to play. This is how I found him playing later that morning.
All he really wanted were his trains, so we got out our big tote and filled the living room floor with tracks! The rest of the day was filled with trains, Tylenol, fluids, and smiles.
So thankful that our day went so well and that our little guy bounced back so quickly. I know this will help him out so much, and I'm glad we were able to get it done! Hopefully we are done with hospitals and doctors for awhile now!
